# Microsoft Copilot explained for business

Microsoft offers AI tools for everyday work and for building your own agents. What you can do depends on the product, your licence and how your organisation has set it up.

## Three options to understand

### Copilot Chat: Ask and draft

Ask questions, summarise information and draft content. Included access is available with eligible Microsoft 365 subscriptions; features vary by licence and where you use it.

Example: “Summarise this document and list the questions we should ask.”

### Microsoft 365 Copilot: Work across Microsoft 365

Paid Copilot licences add broader work-data access and capabilities across Microsoft 365. Use them to help with documents, presentations, email and meetings.

Example: “Help me prepare for this client meeting using the information I can access.”

### Copilot Studio: Build an agent

Create an agent that answers questions or carries out a defined process using connected information and tools. Start with a template or configure your own.

Example: “Build a staff assistant that answers questions from our approved procedures.”

## Find an answer in your procedures

A staff member asks about a process. A configured agent searches the approved documents and returns an answer with a source to check.

Keep documents current and make sure access permissions are appropriate.

## What does it cost?

Copilot Chat is included with eligible subscriptions. Paid Copilot licences and some agent usage add costs. Certain agent capabilities are included with Microsoft 365 Copilot, so check your existing entitlement first.

## Questions businesses ask

**Do we already have Copilot?**
You may already have Copilot Chat. Ask your administrator which features your subscription includes before buying another licence.

**Can it see confidential files?**
Microsoft 365 Copilot respects existing access permissions. Files shared too broadly may become easier to discover, so review sharing settings before rollout.

**Do we need a developer?**
Many everyday features and simple agents can be configured without coding. More complex connections and processes may need technical help.
